For Scrum Masters

A Scrum Master is among the TOP-20 highest-paid professions (according to LinkedIn research, 2020).

The Scrum framework has long gone beyond IT. According to Scrum Guide 2020, only 33% of the world’s Scrum is applied in IT. The remaining 67% work in fintech and banking, industry and agriculture, medicine, and even government institutions. All of these teams need professional Scrum Masters.

Courses and trainings

How to become a Scrum Master?

There is nothing unattainable here. To become a great Scrum Master, you need two things:

Desire to learn

A good Scrum Master is constantly developing — they read books, watch videos, attend trainings, learn new tools and psychology, and re-read Scrum Guide.

Love for people

The best candidates for Scrum Masters are those who love and know how to work with people. Therefore, if you have experience as a team leader, manager, hr, or coach, you already have a good foundation for developing the skills of a Scrum Master.

Where to start training to become a Scrum Master?

  1. Read Scrum Guide..
  2. Read some books. To get started, you can take “Scrum Pocket Guide” by Gunter Verheyen and “Soft in 30 Days” by Ken Schwaber.
  3. Attend several trainings. They will help you quickly and compactly study a huge amount of material, guide you in the right direction and prepare you for certification.
At BrainRain, you can pay for participation in any certification training in installments with 0% markup. No overpayment.
  4. Get certified. Scrum certifications really boost your resume. Sometimes even a novice can get the job of a Scrum Master: with a certificate, it is much easier.
  5. Actively participate in the Scrum community. You can join your organization’s internal Scrum meetings or enter the global community, for example, scrum.org.

Certification and its impact on the Scrum Master's career

Does the certification offer advantages when considering salary?

Yes, it does. You can read more about this in the Scrum Master Trends 2019, but as we are still in Scrum, let us remind:

  • money is an important, but not the main motivation;
  • obtaining a certification stimulates you to learn and develop as a person;
  • empirical learning at trainings and in live practice of working with teams allows you to develop your Scrum as an empirical framework.

Frequently asked questions

How do the classes take place?

We conduct trainings in an interactive form according to the principle “history — discussion — theory — practice — conclusions”. We use collaborative visualization tools and can work both individually and in small and large groups.

Very often, after the main training, we hold follow-up meetings where we discuss the results of our changes after the training and work on mistakes and challenges encountered in real life.

What level of knowledge is required to get into training?

Well, it depends. The list of trainings by difficulty is published above. Junior level trainings are suitable for everyone, even those without experience in Agile and management. Some trainings can be beneficial regardless of your level, so we recommend them to everyone from juniors to architects.

How is practice organized as part of training?

Each section and each topic, regardless of the training, is accompanied by practical tasks — paired, individual, and group. We analyze the results of the exercises together, consolidating the understanding of what has been learned.

During practical tasks, questions often arise regarding the steps to implement the acquired knowledge and how to use the tools in work. We spend time on this as well.

Can I get a consultation?

Of course, you can. Just leave your contacts, and we will call you back and answer all your questions.

Can I take the course without knowledge of the English language?

We conduct trainings in Ukrainian, English, and Russian. However, the certification tests are only available in English. Thus, you will be able to complete the training, but it is more difficult to pass the test and get a Scrum.org or Scaled Agile certificate without knowledge of English.

Will I get a certificate?

You get the Management 3.0 certificate for listening to the training, you don’t need to take additional exams.

Scrum.org and Scaled Agile certifications require confirmation in the form of taking a test.

With each Scrum.org training, you get two attempts at the corresponding certification test. Without the training, they will cost between $150 and $250 each.

Scaled Agile does not allow people who did not participate in the training to take the exams.

The knowledge gained during the training greatly increases the chances of passing the test and receiving a certificate. We recommend reading articles and guides in English in parallel with the training, before and after it, writing out all unfamiliar terminology, and using Magdalena Firlit’s tips. Do not postpone the exam: the knowledge gained during the training is erased over time.

You can also get a participant diploma for any of the BrainRain events — from basic courses and webinars to full-fledged trainings and conferences.
