SPS — Nexus: Scaled Professional Scrum — Nexus

What if your product development requires the involvement of three or more Scrum Teams? How to organize their interaction? How to reduce dependencies? How to start Scaling Scrum? The two-day simulation training will help you understand Nexus, the most lightweight framework for Scrum Scaling, developed by Scrum creator Ken Schwaber.
01
Learn about scalable development based on the Nexus framework. Consolidate each topic in practice — through exercises, examples, discussions, and tasks.
02
SPS — Nexus is a unique simulation training. Try yourself as a member of the Scrum Team in the Nexus process and learn how to work with a large product in a situation of the interaction of several Scrum Teams.
03
SPS training consists of two parts — Nexus framework theory and about 50 practices which you can apply in your project right away. Learn practices in practice 🙂 that is, in the interactive workshop.
04
After the training, you will receive two attempts on the SPS — Scrum.org certification test — and will be able to confirm your expertise with the internationally recognized certificate.

Certification

SPS is the official certification training of Scrum.org. All participants will receive a password to take the Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) assessment.

The assessment takes place online at Scrum.org. If you use your password within 14 days and do not get at least 85% (minimum passing score), we will give you another try at no additional cost.

For participation in the training (even if the test fails), students receive 14 PDU points from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

How can I claim my PDUs

80% of our students take the PSM and PSPO certification tests on Scrum.org on the first try.

Day one

Introduction to the course

Who are you and what do you seek to learn at the training? What answers do you need? Voice them at the introduction stage, and your Professional Scrum Trainer will answer in detail during the training.

How and when to scale Scrum

What is scalable development? Why do you scale? Do you need scaling at all? We will talk about when scaling is necessary, when you can do without it, and how to improve your Scrum process without scaling.

Introduction to the Nexus framework

What is the Nexus framework? Nexus roles, artifacts, and events. How are they different from Scrum roles, artifacts, and events?

Teambuilding in Nexus

How to form teams and who must do it. How to reduce team dependencies. We will talk about the basics of self-organization and how to make the team self-organize. In exercise, we will try to organize ourselves into teams.

New role: Nexus Integration Team

What is the Nexus Integration Team and who must be in it. When NIT enters the game.

Product backlog in Nexus

Why it’s important to have one Backlog for all teams. We will discuss this in the example of a training backlog.

Backlog Refinement and determination of dependencies

Exercise on Product Backlog Refinement. How three teams can detect, visualize, identify, and reduce dependencies. How to reduce blocking each other.

Day two

Planning in Nexus

Divided into teams, we will try to plan a Sprint on a training product. We will learn how to create a common Backlog, what dependencies to work with, how to understand what kind of work a team takes, and how to remove blocks.

Coordination of teams in Nexus

Ways of team interaction in matters of coordination, integration, creation of common standards, and so on.

Nexus Sprint Review and Retrospective

What do Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective in Nexus look like and how do they differ from a regular Scrum. We will conduct a detailed simulation of Retro and, taking the opportunity, analyze the typical problems and mistakes of people who already work with Nexus.

Additional practices of Scaled Professional Scrum

During the training, you will learn about more than 50 additional practices and facilitations for effective Nexus events.

Tracking progress in the Nexus

How to manage Nexus? How to make sure you are moving towards the goal? Do you have time to finish everything by the end of the sprint or quarter? How to monitor the health of the team? In this topic, we study graphs, metrics, practices and consider them in real cases.

Metrics and adding new teams

How do we calculate whether we need to add teams? Will they help speed up the process, or will they slow it down? What metrics can we use?

Huge projects: Nexus+

What if we have more than nine teams? We will talk about the Nexus+ model, which allows breaking your teams into several Nexuses and establishing interactions between them.
